Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens - better popularly referred to as Queen Latifah - is an American performer, actress, and singer. Her work as Queen Latifah on television, film and in music has earned numerous awards. These include the Golden Globe Award two Screen Actors Guild Awards Two Image Awards A Grammy Award In addition, she has six Grammy Nominations An Emmy Award Nomination and an Academy Award. Queen Latifah's parents were Lancelot as well as Rita Owens. They were both police officers. Rita was a Newark New Jersey teacher who was a teacher the class at Irvington High School. The couple divorced when Latifah was 10 years old. Latifah lived in the Baptist faith and attended Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. Her stage name Latifah meaning delicate and very gentle in Arabic was bestowed by her aunt when she was eight. Latifah has always been tall and tall. Standing 5'10" She was a strong forward for her high school basketball team. The song she sang was"Home" from The Wiz at a school play. Latifah started beatboxing in the women's fresh rap group. Latifah was among the founding members of the form of Flavor Unit which at that time was a crew of MCs grouped around producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James (aka DJ Mark the 45King) recorded a demo of Queen Latifah rap Princess of the Posse. The recording was given to Yo! MTV Raps Faddy. The single caught the eye of Tommy Boy Music employee Dante Ross who signed Latifah and, in 1988, released her debut single Wrath of My Madness.
